The Sunshine Coast

Aptly named the Sunshine Coast due to the extended periods of clear blue sky and sunshine experienced for nine months of the year, the Sunshine Coast has long been considered one of Queensland’s premier holiday destinations.

Bordered by Caloundra in the south and Noosa, the gateway to Fraser Island, in the north the residents and holiday makers visiting the Sunshine Coast enjoy stunning beaches, possibly the best climate in Australia, warm water, surfing, fishing and boating.  All of this is within approximately one hour’s drive from Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. The main urban areas are Caloundra, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Coolum and Noosa.

The Glass House Mountains, located south west of Caloundra, were first sighted by James Cook from the deck of the HM Bark Endeavour in 1770.  In the early 1880s the Sunshine Coast became home to numerous runaway convicts from the nearby penal colony at Moreton Bay (Brisbane).    These early settlers were industrious and keen to get ahead and strong forestry and farming entities quickly emerged.

After World War II the Sunshine Coast became a favoured holiday destination and the area experienced rapid population growth in the 1980s.  The economy is currently dominated by three main sectors, tourism, retail and construction but also has a strong agricultural sector.

Tourists flock to the Sunshine Coast from around Australia and the world and the associated Management Rights opportunities are extensive.
