Brisbane
Brisbane is the capital and most densely populated city in Queensland with a population of around two million in the metropolitan area. It has the largest economy of any city between Sydney and Singapore and has seen consistent economic growth as a result of the demand for resources and has become one of Australia’s major business hubs.
The central business district is centred along the Brisbane River and covers just over two square kilometres. The greater Brisbane region spreads east from the Great Dividing Range to Moreton Bay in the north, stretches to Beenleigh in the south and across to Ipswich in the south west.
Following a major flood in 1974 grew and modernised very quickly and became a destination of interstate migration. Brisbane hosted the 1982 Commonwealth Games and the 1988 World Expo and these events were accompanied by development and construction never before experienced in the region. Inter-state and international migration has remained strong ever since.
Brisbaneis the third most populated city in Australia and the density of the population within the inner city suburbs is comparable to that of Sydney. Early legislation decreed a minimum size for residential blocks that resulted in few terrace houses being constructed in the city, but with the expansion that began in 1970s multi-resident accommodation such as apartment blocks began to appear.
Tourism plays a major role in Brisbane’s economy, being the third most popular destination for international tourists after Sydney and Melbourne.
Developers have met the demands of the various accommodation needs of the region and a wide range of permanent, holiday and corporate complexes incorporating Management Rights businesses have been constructed.
